The research perspectives on entrepreneurship research in the 1980s have predominantly focused on socio-economic part than individual’s attributes and causal effects accounting for overall enterprising abilities in configuring entrepreneurship development. Moreover, it was the Kakinada Experiment conducted by David McClelland in India has exhibited the momentum on vitality of personality traits in identifying and developing a potential entrepreneur. However, still entrepreneurship is gendered and differentiated in that perspective in a country like India due to its societal & cultural norms and expressions in practice despite of its high population density, wherein women account for nearly half of the total population.

In order to curb this notion and empower women, National Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development (NFED) has engaged in women entrepreneurship development, since its inception. NFED has associated with some of the leading organizations like Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad and Association for Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka (AWAKE), Karnataka. Apart from that it has conducted numerous research studies on Women Entrepreneurial Attributes (WEA) pertaining to Women Entrepreneurship Development at large, which has been published in reputed & refereed journals, books / book chapters, seminars and conferences in entrepreneurship and inter-disciplinary areas at national and international levels.
